Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud on Wednesday participated in the Uganda-Somali Business Forum. President Mahmoud delivered a speech at the Economic Cooperation Forum between Somalia and Uganda, in which he spoke about the implementation of the cooperation reached by the two countries benefits them in providing opportunities and contributes to economic growth and trade exchange.
The Somali President highlighted the achievements made since the signing of the agreement between Somalia and Uganda in 2016, which led to the development of trade exchange between the two countries, facilitating travel and direct flights, twinning universities, and cooperating in diplomatic and security relations. The President thanked the Ugandan government and people for hosting the forum.
During the conference, which was chaired by the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and the President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, businessmen in the two countries discussed how to enhance investment and economic infrastructure, create a job disk for youth, enhance women's opportunities, and encourage private business and industrial and financial systems.
During the Somali-Uganda Business Forum, the Minister of Trade in the Somali Federal Government, Jibril Abdul Rashid, signed an economic cooperation agreement with his Ugandan counterpart Mwebisa Francis, while the Director of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development in Somalia signed. Asad Yusuf and his Ugandan counterpart Rwakamba Morrison and the chambers of commerce in the two countries have other agreements on facilitating trade and exchanging experiences.
The two presidents finally directed the ministers of the two countries to ensure the implementation of the agreements and recommendations issued by the Somali-Uganda Economic Forum, as well as to conduct periodic reviews, to follow up on the progress of their implementation, and to explore other areas in which the two countries can cooperate.
