The Group of Five affirms its support for the Somali government in ensuring the security and stability of its country

The Group of Five

 On October 11, 2023, the Group of Five on Somalia held its fourth meeting in the Turkish capital, Ankara, with the participation of representatives from Turkey, Somalia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

The meeting focused on the security and stability of Somalia, and the countries participating in the meeting affirmed in a statement their full support for the Federal Government of Somalia in its efforts to ensure the security and stability of the entire country.

The countries praised the efforts of the Somali government in the fight against Al-Shabaab, and discussed in detail the mission of the African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia, the progress made in reforming the security sector in Somalia, and the next steps to improve it.

Finally, countries confirmed that they will continue to support Somalia to reduce the threat posed by Al-Shabaab, and completely lift the arms embargo imposed on it.
