Experts determine... this is the "ideal" number of hours of sleep.

Experts say ideal sleep hours vary by individual. Quality matters more than quantity, and consistent wake times help find your natural sleep rhythm.

Many people believe that they should sleep for 8 hours in order for the body to rest and improve its activity, but an expert confirmed that each person has his own biological rhythm, and provided steps to know the ideal number of hours of sleep for each individual.

Many people focus on the number of hours of sleep, but they neglect its quality, which may be even more important than the time .

Tony Cunningham, a clinical psychologist and director of the Sleep and Cognitive Center in Boston , explained that "there are two different things in our bodies that determine the type and quality of sleep: sleep pressure and circadian rhythm."

He added that sleep pressure, or what is called the "sleep drive," increases the longer the body remains awake, and decreases when going to sleep.

In an interview with CNN, he explained that "it's like eating; the longer the time between meals, the hungrier you feel."

He continued: "To get a good night's sleep, you should go to bed when your sleep pressure is high."

The biological rhythm is the body's biological clock.

Cunningham explained that "the biological rhythm can fluctuate and send signals that call for sleep or wakefulness throughout the day, but if you've been up all night and then feel a sudden burst of energy in the middle of the night, that's the biological rhythm at work."

To improve sleep quality, sleep pressure and circadian rhythm must work at the same time, and any sudden change or disruption in sleep schedules may negatively affect the ability to sleep .

He pointed out that one way to improve sleep quality is to wake up at the same time every day, explaining that it is more effective than going to sleep at the same time.

Regarding sleep hours, Cunningham explained: "Not everyone in the world needs eight hours of sleep; some people only need five or six hours, depending on their body type."

He explained that there are others who need 9, 10 or even 11 hours of sleep every night.

To determine how much sleep the body needs, two things can be done:

First: Maintain a consistent sleep schedule.

Second: Wake up naturally without an alarm.

Cunningham said: "Go and hide your clocks, block out the light, use a noise machine if you want, put on an eye mask... do whatever makes your bedroom free of time markers, then go to sleep and let your body wake up on its own."

After a few days, everyone will have their ideal sleeping time, as they will wake up consecutively at the same time without any external cues.
