After 50 years... NASA returns to the moon and establishes the Artemis lunar base

The moon

With continued activity in the space field, and amid expectations of more goals in this field, it appears that astronauts will be living and working on the moon by 2030. Howard Hu, head of the US agency's Orion lunar spacecraft program, said that astronauts can be active on the Moon for periods before 2030, with potential to live there.

He added in an interview with the BBC: "We will send astronauts, and they will live on this surface of the moon and practice science." Hu talked about the 98-meter-high Artemis rocket, which took off from launch pad 39B at the Kennedy Space Center on November 16, after a series of delays due to technical faults and typhoons.

Hu said: Ho said that the "Artemis 1" mission program is, in fact, "a stepping stone towards sending regular crews to the moon, for longer stays." "It's the first step we're taking for long-term deep space exploration, not just for the United States but for the world," he added. And he added, "We will return to the moon. We are working towards a sustainable program and this is the means that will carry the people who will return us to the moon again."

Artemis base camp

The administration is working to establish what it calls the "Artemis Base Camp" on the moon.

The camp will include a modern lunar cabin and mobile home, allowing the astronauts to stay for up to two months.

NASA will build on the momentum of this human return mission in 4 years.

NASA plans to send a crew to the moon once a year after that.

Early missions will include short stints on the Moon.

As base camp develops, the goal is to allow the crew to stay on the lunar surface for up to two months at a time.
