Mogadishu - India on Tuesday donated 10 tons of essential medicines to Somalia, a move that bolsters efforts to strengthen the country's healthcare system.

The handover ceremony was held at Mogadishu Port in the presence of Somali Health Minister Ali Haji Adam and a delegation from the Indian Embassy in Nairobi.

The Indian delegation included Sudheep Kulasari, Second Secretary, and Antara Haldar, Attaché, who emphasized India's continued partnership with the health sector in Somalia.

"India is proud to support Somalia's health sector through this vital medical assistance. This partnership reflects our commitment to improving healthcare," Kulasari said.

Haldar added, "This aid is a symbol of the friendship between India and Somalia. Access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right, and we stand with Somalia to support its health services."

Somali Health Minister Ali Haji Adam expressed his gratitude to India for this assistance, describing it as a significant boost to healthcare services in Somalia.

This aid comes at a time when Somalia is facing significant health challenges, while efforts continue to improve health infrastructure and provide essential medicines.
