Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre lays foundation stone for new Ministry of Finance headquarters to strengthen Somalia’s economic infrastructure.
The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, officially laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new central headquarters for the Ministry of Finance, marking an important milestone in the government’s efforts to strengthen national economic infrastructure and modernize public institutions. The new facility will replace the existing ministry building constructed in 1980, which no longer meets the growing operational and administrative demands of the ministry.
In his remarks, the Prime Minister stated that the project is part of the DanQaran Government’s broader policy aimed at enhancing economic governance, improving public service delivery, and creating a more efficient and effective working environment for civil servants. He emphasized that the construction of a modern headquarters will address long-standing challenges related to limited office space, outdated facilities, and operational constraints that have affected the ministry’s performance over the years.
Prime Minister Hamza highlighted the vital role of the Ministry of Finance as the backbone of Somalia’s economic development, noting that a strong and well-equipped financial institution is essential for sustainable growth, fiscal discipline, and improved revenue management. He commended the Minister of Finance, H.E. Bihi Iman Egeh, along with the leadership and staff of the ministry, for their ongoing efforts to reform and modernize Somalia’s financial and revenue systems in line with international best practices.
“I am pleased that today we are laying the foundation stone for a large, modern, and well-equipped central headquarters whose safety, quality, and technical standards have been fully ensured. Once completed, the building will accommodate all staff and senior leadership of the ministry, creating a unified and efficient working environment. I congratulate the Ministry of Finance on this important step toward enhancing service delivery to the Somali people,” the Prime Minister stated.
The new headquarters will feature a modern architectural design equipped with advanced office facilities and infrastructure. Special attention has been given to ensuring environmental sustainability, structural safety, and the availability of a reliable electricity supply to support uninterrupted operations. The project reflects the government’s commitment to building resilient and future-ready public institutions.
The construction of the new Ministry of Finance headquarters is being supported by the African Development Bank, which is playing a significant role in financing and facilitating the project. This partnership underscores the continued cooperation between Somalia and international development partners in strengthening the country’s economic foundations and supporting long-term national development goals.
