The President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, met today in Abu Dhabi, Prime Minister of the Somali Federal Government, Mohamed Hussein Roble.
Roble offered his condolences to the UAE President on the death of former President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The Prime Minister also conveyed a cable of congratulations to the new President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on his assumption of the position of President of the Emirates.
For his part, President Mohamed bin Zayed congratulated the people of Somalia on the election of President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud and the peaceful end of the electoral process.
On Thursday, the Somali government officially handed over to the UAE $9.6 million, confiscated by the regime of former President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo in 2018. These funds were financial aid provided by the UAE to support the Somali army in April 2018.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, directed the return of these funds as a gift from the Emirates to the Somali government, and on Thursday ordered the provision of urgent humanitarian aid worth 35 million dirhams to the State of Somalia to support development efforts in this brotherly country.
The directives of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to provide this assistance come within the framework of the brotherly relations that bind the two brotherly countries.
This initiative also confirms the UAE's keenness to support and support its brothers, and its quest to develop its bilateral relations with Somalia.
The UAE initiative aims to contribute to meeting the needs of the Somali people in various development areas, in an effort to improve the living conditions of the population and enhance the government's capabilities to deal with the humanitarian challenges facing Somalia.
