A company is suing Meta for name hijacking

Imagine waking up one day and discovering that your small business name, which you created over a decade ago, was suddenly "hijacked" by one of the most powerful companies in the world. This is what actually happened, according to CNBC, to a man called Justin Polonino, who owns a company he called "Meta".

"It was surreal, it was like watching a movie," Polonino says. And he told the American network details of what happened, when he heard for the first time, last year, that the company "Facebook" had renamed its name to "Meta".

He said, "What happened is the scenario that I do not want, and I do not wish for even my worst enemy." He adds that he started his work on his small project 12 years ago, in the field of "Metaverse", virtual reality and augmented reality, but this work stopped after Facebook's move.

He said that the reason for this is that the services provided by his company are completely identical to Facebook's announcement that it provides services such as social immersion in virtual spaces. In October 2021, Facebook announced that it would change its name to “Meta” after developing new services and transforming it into “Metaverse”.

A lawyer, Justin Polonino, said she had previously contacted Meta or Facebook to tell her it was infringing her agent's intellectual property rights. She added that after 8 months of negotiations, the giant Meta did not put any solution on the table.

And she considered that what "Facebook" did was an illegal acquisition of the name of her agent and ignored his presence. And not only that, but it caused trouble for the owner of the small business, as his customers believe that the services he provides come from "Facebook", and this is not true.
