A senior official in the American club "Inter Miami" hinted at the possibility of communicating with Argentine star Lionel Messi, in order to discuss the issue of joining the American Football League.

In an interview with the Spanish sports newspaper, El Mundo Deportivo, Javier Asense, head of the business office of Inter Miami, owned by English soccer star David Beckham, said: "We will discuss the possibility of including Messi from Paris Saint-Germain."

Ascensi added: "What we are looking for is a player who can make a qualitative leap in the American League. Messi is a distinguished player, who can make a big difference in the league, and he will be a start towards the inclusion of other distinguished players, which will ultimately raise the level of matches."

On the chances of Messi accepting any offer that "Inter Miami" might make, Ascensi said: "It depends on him and what he wants. We want to attract the best football players, and Messi is undoubtedly the best in the history of this sport." Barcelona will play Inter Miami in the first match of their preliminary round in the United States on Wednesday.
