President Sheikh Mahmoud's visit to Tanzania to seek membership in the East African Community.

 Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud and a leading delegation will head to Arusha in Tanzania, after he postponed his visit to Ethiopia, which was part of his visits to the neighboring countries of Somalia. The request for postponement came from the Ethiopian government.


Tomorrow, President Hassan Sheikh will participate in the East African Community Summit, abbreviated as the East African Community, and hosted by Tanzania. It is expected that the conference will be attended by 300 participants from partner countries, private companies, civil society and development partners.


This meeting will discuss, to take strategic steps to deal with setbacks and challenges facing the Common Market Protocol in the countries of the East African Community, as well as agree on important areas for cooperation in business development.


And in 2018, Somalia submitted an application to join this organization, to which 7 countries joined; Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, South Sudan and Congo. The leaders of this organization said at the time, that they are sending an advance team to Somalia to assess the level of preparedness in Somalia. But until that time, there had been no further news from EAC.


The East African Community is one of the sub-Saharan regional economic organizations and has made great progress in integrating the economies of its member states. They have established free trade and are working for a common market.


The President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta, is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors of EAC, one of the most influential nations in the organization.


Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud visited Djibouti and Kenya this week, whose forces are part of the African Union operation in Somalia, and his first visit to countries in the region was to Eritrea, a country where thousands of Somali soldiers it trained.
