The US space agency "NASA" revealed a new plan to build a successor to the "James Webb" space telescope, whose main mission will be to search for habitable worlds in space. And “NASA” said at the latest meeting of the American Astronomical Society, last week, that the plan to develop the next telescope is based on the goal of making it suitable for searching for signs of life on habitable exoplanets in outer space, according to the American “Fox News” network.
And according to the "Space" website, which specializes in space news, the new observatory will support a high-power imaging device, to enable scientists to study space objects and their behaviors of all sizes. And the site quoted the director of the Astrophysics Department at NASA, Mark Clampin, as saying that the agency will work on the project based on the previous technology used in the “Nancy Grace Roman” telescope, as well as “James Webb.”
The new telescope's observational capabilities will reach a point known as L2, or the second Lagrangian point, about a million miles from Earth and opposite the sun. On the tasks of the telescope, Clampin said: "It will give us great flexibility, and we will be able to extend the life of its mission."
It is worth noting that the new telescope is part of the "NASA" project known as the "Great Observatories", which aims to find out the chances of life outside Earth.
