Liverpool announced that it will identify a fan who stormed the pitch and collided with his team's players while they were celebrating their seventh goal against Manchester United, Sunday, in a historic Premier League match, and would punish him.
The club said it would ban the fan from Anfield for life after he nearly injured Andy Robertson. And while the players celebrated the seventh goal during the 7-0 victory, the fan ran to the field, slipped and collided with Robertson, who fell while holding his ankle, although the Scotsman completed the match.
Liverpool statement
• "There is no excuse for this unacceptable and dangerous behaviour. The safety and security of players, teammates and fans is paramount."
• "The club will now follow its official sanctioning procedures and have blocked the account of the alleged perpetrator until this process is completed."
• “If he is found guilty of the offense of entering the stadium without permission, it will be added to his record and he will be banned for life from Anfield and all Premier League stadiums.”
• "These actions are dangerous, illegal and have serious consequences."
Security supervisors tried to remove the fan, while anger appeared on the face of Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp when the assistant referee tried to calm him down.
The result reinforced Liverpool's hopes of finishing the league in the golden square, as it became fifth, 3 points behind Tottenham Hotspur, fourth in the standings, and has one deferred match. Liverpool will play away from home in Bournemouth, on Saturday.
