Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Berri inaugurated today, Saturday, the National Blood Bank for the first time in forty-five years, and it is the bank that the Somali community desperately needed, with funding from the Danish government.
Ministers of the federal government, representatives of the People's Assembly and the Senate, and representatives of international organizations working in the health sector, in addition to other guests of honor, participated in the inauguration.
The Minister of Health and Community Welfare said that the opening of the National Blood Bank will facilitate the process of obtaining blood in case of emergency and need for it. The National Blood Bank was established in 1976, but the central government collapsed in 1991, and restarting it will satisfy the great need of the Somali people for access to blood.
The Prime Minister praised the Ministry of Health and the Danish government for implementing this center, which reflects the achievement of an important goal, explaining that this implementation is one of the clear criteria for improving the health sector in the country.
