The presidents of Somalia and Turkey discuss strengthening relations and cooperation between their countries
The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, and his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who held a special meeting in Istanbul, discussed strengthening the relationship and cooperation between the two brotherly countries and peoples.
President Hassan Sheikh briefed the Turkish President on the results of the first phase of the struggle to liberate his country from terrorism, and pointed out that the armed forces and the Somali people succeeded in liberating more than 80 towns and regions from terrorists who were harassing Somali citizens.
President Hassan Sheikh stressed the importance of the relationship between Somalia and Turkey, which is based on the brotherhood of the two peoples, common interests and visions between the two governments, and the long history between the two countries. He thanked Turkey for its prominent support of his government and its role in the war on terrorism.
For his part, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan praised the efforts of the government and people of Somalia to liberate and rebuild their country, stressing that the Turkish government and people are committed to helping their brothers in Somalia.
The two presidents agreed to activate the role of the Turkish government in security, state building, and investment in Somalia. They also agreed to begin completing and implementing the development projects that the two countries had previously signed.
