Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, Liverpool's top scorer, endured a poor start to the new season, losing the Community Shield to Crystal Palace 3-2 on penalties after the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Foot Mercato reported that things have gone from bad to worse for the Egyptian star, following a lackluster performance in the match. His struggles will continue into 2025, creating a worrying situation for Salah, who signed a new contract with Liverpool in April.

He added that Salah had a good performance in the match, but he was not very effective in attack. He did not perform a single dribble or cross, and lost six one-on-ones during the match, which ended in a penalty shootout that he missed after firing over goalkeeper Dean Henderson.

Foot Mercato cited English press ratings of Salah's performance in the match, stating that the Daily Express gave him a 4/10 rating, while the Telegraph gave him the same rating.

He added that Salah's statistics against Crystal Palace represent a real crisis for the player, who scored 30 goals and provided 22 assists in 39 matches last season, while he underperformed in warm-up matches, scoring just one goal in six matches.

Having turned 33 last June and with a contract that runs until 2027, Mohamed Salah enters the new season amidst a host of uncertainties, and will attempt to rectify his situation starting with Friday's match against Bournemouth in the first round of the English Premier League.
