Benfica president Rui Costa announced on Thursday that Jose Mourinho has been appointed the club's new coach for a second term.
The veteran coach, who left Fenerbahce in August, began his coaching career at Benfica .
"I promise to live for Benfica and for my mission," Mourinho , 62, told reporters at the team's training base near Lisbon. "I am not the important thing, Benfica is the important thing and the Benfica fans are the important thing. I am here to serve."
The club said Mourinho's contract expires at the end of the 2026-27 season, but both sides have the right to terminate it 10 days after the last match of the season.

The Portuguese capital club turned to Mourinho after sacking Bruno Lage in the early hours of Wednesday morning, following the team's shock defeat to visiting Azerbaijani side Qarabag in the opening round of the Champions League .
Mourinho returns to Benfica after a short spell in charge 25 years ago, succeeding German coach Jupp Heynckes.
Since then, Mourinho has achieved great success with Porto, Portugal, before moving to Chelsea, England.
Mourinho won the Champions League and UEFA Cup with Porto, as well as the Champions League with Inter Milan in 2010. He also won the Europa League with Manchester United in 2017 and the Conference League with Roma in 2022.
