Arteta: Arsenal is the strongest team in Europe
Mikel Arteta, coach of the English football team Arsenal, said that his team was the best in the Champions League this season despite losing to Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals of the competition.
Arsenal lost 1-3 on aggregate in the two-legged match, after Saint-Germain won the second leg, which was held on Wednesday in Paris, 2-1.
Saint-Germain took the lead with two goals scored by Fabian Ruiz and Achraf Hakimi, before Bukayo Saka reduced the gap.
Arteta told TNT Sports: From what I saw, I don't think there are better teams than us in the competition so far, but we came out. I think we deserve much more than the two matches. When you look at the two matches, the best player in the Saint-Germain team on the field was the goalkeeper. He was the one who made the difference for Saint-Germain in the two matches.
He stressed: We were very close, much closer than the match result showed, but unfortunately we were eliminated. I am very proud of the players.
He explained: There is always something extra you need to be in your favor in such tournaments, but it was not the case. We were very close, and for long periods of both matches we were much better than them, but we did not qualify, and that must be painful.
He continued: If you want to win this tournament, you must realize this. There are certain things that are our responsibility. We shouldn't just accept that we're out, that's not the way I look at things.
