English: Manchester City announced on Wednesday that striker Omar Marmoush will miss Sunday's Manchester derby after suffering a knee injury while playing for the Egyptian national team.

The Pharaohs suffered a major blow when Marmoush sustained an injury just minutes after the start of Tuesday's goalless draw with Burkina Faso in the World Cup qualifiers.

The Egyptian national team doctor said that the 26-year-old player suffers from a bruised knee ligament

said in a statement: "Initial results of the scans he underwent in Egypt indicate that he will not be available to participate in the Manchester derby on Sunday. He will now return to England for further assessment and to begin his rehabilitation."

Marmoush, who joined City in January, finished last season with eight goals and four assists in all competitions, but has yet to score for them this season.

This injury is a severe blow to City, led by manager Josep Guardiola , who are in thirteenth place after three rounds with only one win.

City are already without Rayan Cherki and Mateo Kovacic after long-term injuries, while Phil Foden and Savinho are also doubtful
