A recent study revealed that drinking 7 to 8 cups of water, tea, and coffee combined daily increases life expectancy.
The study, published in the British Journal of Nutrition, revealed that combining these three beverages in varying amounts, with water accounting for the majority, offers better health benefits than limiting one beverage to a single one.
The study, conducted by researchers from Southern Medical University in China, followed more than 182,000 adults for over 13 years. They were asked to record what they drank and ate during the previous 24 hours, measuring the amount of water, tea , and coffee they consumed.
Researchers explained that drinking two or three cups of coffee, compared to one cup of tea, along with the recommended amount of water, offers greater benefits than limiting one beverage to another.
Incorrect food preparation methods turn it into a source of danger
However, the study considered the relationship between drinking water, tea, and coffee and longevity to be merely a correlation, not a direct cause.
John Sallig Blake, a nutrition professor at Boston University, said that tea and coffee play a key role in daily hydration, despite their caffeine content and diuretic effects.
Very Well Health reported that coffee consumption has been linked to a reduced risk of several chronic diseases , such as type 2 diabetes, liver disease, and some types of cancer .
Samantha Cogan, a registered dietitian and director of the nutrition program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, explained that tea and coffee "enhance each other's benefits."
Blake recommends adding some low-fat milk to your coffee to enrich it with healthy nutrients, such as calcium, potassium, and vitamin D.
