Sam Altman said AI could surpass humans by gaining perfect memory, adding OpenAI aims to develop such capabilities by 2026.

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, the developer of the ChatGBT chatbot, predicted that artificial intelligence would surpass human capabilities when those systems possessed "infinite and perfect memory".

Altman stated in his interview on the "Big Technology Podcast" that the development he is most looking forward to is making artificial intelligence "remember every detail of your entire life," confirming that his company plans to reach this stage by 2026, according to the British newspaper "The Independent".

OpenAI and other companies are working to improve artificial intelligence's reasoning and reasoning capabilities.

Altman said: "Even if you had the best personal assistant in the world, he could not remember every word you have said in your life, he could not read every document you write, he could not keep track of all your daily activities and remember every little detail, he could not be involved in your life to that extent. No human being has an infinite and perfect memory.

He added: "But artificial intelligence will certainly be able to do that. We talk a lot about this, as memory is currently still very primitive and in its early stages."

Altman's comments came weeks after reports that he had declared a "red alert" within his company following Google's release of the latest version of its Gemini software.

In November, Google described its Gemini 3 model as opening a "new era" of intelligence after it achieved record results in a number of tests.

But Altman downplayed the threat posed by Gemini 3, saying: "It's good to be cautious and move quickly when a potential competitive threat emerges. The same thing happened to us before, and it happened earlier this year with Deepsec and Gemini 3. It hasn't, so far, had the impact we feared, but it has exposed some weaknesses in our products and strategies, and we are addressing that quickly."

According to the company, OpenAI currently has around 800 million users, representing 71 percent of the artificial intelligence applications market share.
