Somali FM meets Egyptian counterpart to advance strategic partnership

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of, H.E. Abdisalam Abdi Ali, held a meeting on Saturday (December 20) with his Egyptian counterpart, H.E. Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, on the sidelines of the Second Ministerial Conference of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum, which took place in Cairo from 19 to 20 December.

The discussions focused on advancing bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation across economic, development, investment and security fields, with both sides stressing the importance of practical partnerships that contribute to stability and sustainable development.
Minister Abdisalam welcomed Egypt’s continued support for Somalia and reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Cairo, particularly in diplomacy, security and institutional capacity-building. He also highlighted the value of coordinated regional efforts to promote peace and long-term stability.
For his part, Dr. Abdelatty underlined the positive trajectory of Egypt–Somalia relations and reiterated Egypt’s commitment to deepening strategic cooperation. He noted that the relocation of the Egyptian embassy headquarters to Mogadishu is expected to facilitate closer diplomatic engagement and improve coordination between the two countries.
The meeting also covered regional security developments, with Egypt reiterating its support for stability in Somalia and the Horn of Africa and emphasizing the need for sustained international financing for the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) to ensure its effectiveness.
Both ministers underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation to combat terrorism and violent extremism, calling for enhanced regional and international coordination to address threats to peace and security in the region.
