The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, accompanied by Prime Minister H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, officially chaired a consultative meeting with the ‘Council for the Future’ on Thursday. The highly anticipated summit, held at the National Presidency in Villa Somalia, represents a major breakthrough in political dialogue between the Federal Government and a prominent section of the opposition.

The high-level talks focused extensively on the general state of the nation and the trajectory of the upcoming elections. Both government leadership and opposition figures engaged in critical discussions aimed at solidifying national unity and fostering the collective solidarity of the Somali people during a sensitive political period.

Beyond the immediate political agenda, the dialogue expanded to address pressing humanitarian and security imperatives. The participants deliberated on coordinated national responses to the severe droughts affecting various communities across the country. Additionally, they reviewed the ongoing national offensive against the Kharijite terrorist groups, acknowledging that neutralizing this threat requires a unified, bipartisan front.

The successful commencement of these talks at Villa Somalia signals a mutual commitment to resolving political differences through constructive engagement. By bringing the opposition to the table, the Federal Government has demonstrated a clear intent to ensure that national stability, election integrity, and security remain the highest priorities for all political stakeholders.
