Somalia warns of potential floods threatening crops and residents
The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation of the Somali Federal Government has warned of potential flooding that could damage crops and harm residents, based on weather forecasts for the coming period.The Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Mohamed Abdi Hayir, urged farmers living near the Shabelle River and in flood-prone areas to take precautions, given the expected rainfall that could lead to flooding.
The Minister stated, “There are genuine concerns about flooding based on the weather forecast, and we are preparing to provide assistance to those potentially affected.” He also urged state officials to take necessary measures and raise their level of preparedness to mitigate flood risks and protect crops and vulnerable populations.
