On Saturday, the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, and the President of Hirshabelle State, Ali Godlawi Hussein, laid the foundation stone for the construction of the airport in the city of “Athali” in the Middle Shabelle region.
President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, who spoke on the occasion, said that this airport is important to the local community, indicating that its construction will be part of the projects that will be implemented in Shabelle Central region.
It should be noted that the President visited areas in the Middle Shabelle region to accelerate the war against Al-Shabaab and to find reconciliation between the clan militias that fought in areas belonging to the city of “Athali.”
President Hassan Sheikh Mahmud noted the importance of promoting peace, regional development and social reconciliation, and stressed that his government would not accept illegal roadblocks and harassment of traveling citizens.
