Bayern Munich announced today, Tuesday, the inclusion of Portuguese international defender and Manchester City player, Joao Cancelo, on loan until the end of the current season, with the option to buy.
And the Bavarian club had previously included, earlier this month, the 32-year-old Dutch international, Dali Blind, from Ajax, to strengthen his injury-ridden defense line. According to the German press, the 28-year-old Cancelo's purchase clause is worth 70 million euros, according to AFP.
"I took this opportunity because I wanted to get to know a club like Bayern Munich, whose importance I know as a player," said Cancelo, who participated in all of his country's matches in the Qatar 2022 World Cup, when he was introduced to the press before an afternoon training session.
The right-back can play on the right side, as it was in Juventus, or on the left, similar to Manchester City, under the orders of Spanish coach Pep Guardiola. On his joining Bayern, Nagelsmann said that Cancelo "can play in many positions and is a defender with a great attacking mentality. He is able to penetrate and is good at crosses. He has a different personality than some other players in his position. He is a logical deal for us," according to the account. The official Bavarian club on Twitter.
For his part, and about his first impression in Bayern Munich, Cancelo said, "It's a great feeling. I know this great club and I want to get the opportunity and train with the rest of the players as soon as possible. I look forward to working."
It is noteworthy that Cancelo began his career in Benfica, and played 3 seasons in Valencia (2014-2017), and two seasons in Italy (Inter and Juventus) before signing with Manchester City in the summer of 2019. He extended his contract with Manchester City a year ago until the summer of 2027.
