"X bomb" .. "formerly Twitter" will add the most controversial updates

X

The X platform, formerly known as Twitter, will add a feature that was considered odd relative to the original premise on which it was built. Technical news sites reported that the owner of "X", American billionaire Elon Musk, confirmed that the site will add video calling service in the near future.

Andrea Conway, a designer at X, wrote a brief tweet on the site on August 10, saying: "Just call anyone on X," meaning the phone call. Later, the company's CEO, Linda Iaccarino, said in press statements that users will soon be able to make video calls in "X".

She added that the user would not need to give anyone else on the site their phone number in order to place the call. However, it is not clear whether the service is available to subscribers with a blue tick or to all users.

For everyone

  • The next step in turning X into an "app for everyone" is Musk's vision to make it a multitasking platform, not just for Twitter.
  • Musk seeks to make X a payments platform like PayPal, which he owned at the turn of the 21st century.
  • But adding video calls to "X" will make the platform very different from the original format that many loved.
  • Short tweets may become a thing of the past, with the platform relying on much of the technology used by competitors such as Facebook.
