An African Union delegation headed by the Permanent Representative of the Subcommittee on Returned Refugees, Ms. Jinaba Jagne, arrived in the Somali capital, Mogadishu.

The African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia (ATMS) said that the delegation's week-long visit to Mogadishu aims to assess the humanitarian situation in the country before the expected withdrawal of three thousand soldiers from Somalia.

The delegation is scheduled to hold meetings with senior leaders of the Somali Federal Government, humanitarian organizations, civil society organizations, IGAD and key stakeholders. It should be noted that preparations to withdraw 3,000 soldiers by September 30 have reached an advanced stage.
