The African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) concluded a five-day training course focused on managing police stations and reducing crime in local communities. The training was part of the Somali Police Force's preparations to assume full security responsibility when ATMIS exits Somalia in December 2024.
The African Union mission said in a statement that a group of Hirshabelle state police officers participated in the training program that covered various aspects of community policing, search and arrest procedures, detention practices and criminal investigation methods.
During the closing ceremony, Zainab Maya Conteh, Head of the Training and Development Team at ATMIS in Sector 5, stressed the importance of the topic covered by the training. “As ATMIS, we are proud to have been able to implement this training as one of our main tasks is to provide capacity building to the Somali Police Force,” she added.
For his part, Deputy Commander of Johor Airport Police Station, Lieutenant Ahmed Abdullah Madobe, thanked ATMIS Police for conducting the much-needed training for Hirshabelle police officers.
The police component of ATMIS supports the Somali Police Force by providing capacity building training, providing advice and guidance to officers, conducting regular joint patrols and protecting vital installations.
