The President meets with senior politicians from South West State

The President

President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud met in Dosmarib, the capital of Galmudug State, with senior politicians hailing from South West State. The politicians, including former Speakers of Parliament, arrived in Dosmarib to express their support for the efforts made by the President to combat Al-Shabaab, and to discuss the political situation in the country in general and in South West State in particular.

The politicians demanding elections in the southwest confirmed their determination to take their role in liberating the country from the Al-Shabaab movement, especially from the southwest regions. For his part, the President asked the politicians he met to commit to unity, consultation, and making concessions in resolving differences to achieve a Somalia free of terrorism.

The politicians were part of an agreement concluded between them and the President of South West State, Abdulaziz Leftagrin, last February under the supervision of President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, and the Speaker of the People’s Assembly, Sheikh Adam Madobe, to resolve a political crisis that existed in South West State, and they agreed to a one-year extension in Leftagrin State. However, now that this period is approaching its end, they are demanding the implementation of what was agreed upon and the holding of parliamentary and presidential elections in the state.
