Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud arrived in Djibouti on an unannounced visit to bolster regional support for his country's ongoing battle against the extremist Al-Shabaab movement.
During his visit, President Mahmoud held a meeting with Djiboutian President Ismail Omar Guelleh to discuss cooperation strategies in eliminating Al-Shabaab, which poses a strong threat to stability in the Horn of Africa.
The Somali President asked his Djiboutian counterpart to provide vital support for the war on Al-Shabaab, as Djibouti was part of the confrontation countries that pledged to participate in the second phase of the military operation aimed at eliminating the militants.
It was expected that neighboring countries (Djibouti, Kenya, and Ethiopia) would send forces to Somalia, but no country fulfilled its promises without explaining the reasons.
