The United Nations stresses the importance of Puntland’s participation in crucial issues in Somalia

The United Nations Special Representative in Somalia, Catriona Laing, stressed the importance of Puntland State’s participation in agreements on crucial issues, and called for the state to be returned to the National Advisory Council.

Ling pointed out that Somalia, which is going through a critical period, needs unity and agreement on the election process, its type, timing and form under the leadership of the federal government, explaining that it is difficult to complete the process in the absence of Puntland.

The UN official stressed the importance of continuing the process of reviewing the Somali constitution, and said: “Without a constitution, it will be very difficult for the country to move forward.” “Somalia really needs to complete the constitution as it is working on a transitional constitution.”

It should be noted that the President of Puntland State, Said Abdullahi Deni, withdrew from the National Advisory Council, which includes the Somali leadership at the federal and regional levels, and considered the decisions reached by the Council invalid, accusing the leadership of the Somali government of undermining the federal system.
