Tribal sultans begin consultations to find a solution to the political crisis in Puntland
The clan sultans of Puntland state in northeastern Somalia, led by Sultan Burhan Sultan Musa, began consultations in Garowe, the state capital, seeking to find a solution to the political crisis resulting from the dispute over the election issue.
Earlier this month, the opposition called on the tribal sultans to intervene in the tense political situation, as a result of what they described as the ambitions of President Said Abdullah Deni.
Sultan Said Muhammad Grassi, one of the participants in the consultations, told the media that they met to search for a way out of the crisis in Puntland, and pledged to discuss the controversial issues sincerely and impartially.
The meeting of the clan sultans comes at a time when Garowe, the capital of Puntland, is witnessing military movements by both the government and the opposition, which threatens the development of the disputes into an armed conflict if efforts to defuse the crisis do not succeed.
