The African Union Mission announces the intensification of its attacks against Al-Shabaab
The African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) announced that it has intensified its joint military attacks with Somali security forces against Al-Shabaab fighters. The mission’s forces commander, General Sam Okeding, said in a press conference: “After the technical pause in the second phase of the withdrawal, it reorganized its forces.”Okeding praised that the Atmis forces are engaged in joint military operations against Al-Shabaab, in addition to carrying out routine patrols to protect the main supply routes. General Okiding admitted that the rainfall led to a slight delay in plans to continue efforts aimed at liberating areas under Al-Shabaab control.
The Force Commander expressed his gratitude to Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud for his leadership and prioritizing attacks against Al-Shabaab, explaining that the President’s leadership was exemplary in this regard.
