The Somali President arrives in London to attend the World Food Security Summit
President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud arrived in London to co-host the World Food Security Summit with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, the United Arab Emirates, the Children's Investment Fund Foundation, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.The summit, scheduled to be held today, Monday, in London, will bring together government leaders, relief organizations, scientists participating in global research initiatives, and climate and food experts. The summit will include various sessions focusing on innovative agricultural practices, climate-resilient agriculture, international cooperation to allocate resources, and supporting countries like Somalia, which are on the front line in the food security battle due to geographical, social and political factors.
The British Prime Minister stressed the need for global action to address the often invisible underlying causes of global food insecurity. According to the United Nations, the latest analysis indicates that between April and June 2023, about 6.6 million people in Somalia experienced high levels of acute food insecurity.
