Moussa Faki calls for respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the member states of the African Union

 The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, spoke about the tension between Somalia and Ethiopia, after Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Somaliland President Musa Bihi Abdi signed an agreement in Addis Ababa.

The President of the African Union called for respect for the unity and independence of the member states of the African Union, including Somalia and Ethiopia. A statement issued by Faki said: He is closely following the crisis that resulted from the signing of the memorandum of understanding, calling for calming the situation between the governments of Somalia and Ethiopia.

Faki called on the two countries to stay away from anything that could lead to the deterioration of the good relationship between them, stressing the need to respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all member states of the African Union, including the Federal Republic of Somalia and the Ethiopian federal government.

He also stressed the importance of adhering to the rules of good neighborliness in order to enhance peace, security and stability in the Horn of Africa region, and urged the two countries to enter into negotiations to resolve their differences without delay and in the most effective way.
