The Somali President calls for an extraordinary session of the two chambers of the Federal Parliament

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud called for an emergency session today of the Federal Parliament, with its two chambers (the People’s Assembly and the Senate). It is noteworthy that the agreement includes transferring part of the Red Sea to Ethiopia to be used as a military base, and in return, Ethiopia recognizes the independence of Somaliland.

President Mahmoud is scheduled to deliver a speech before members of Parliament regarding the memorandum of understanding signed between Ethiopia and the separatist administration of Somaliland, which Somali politicians considered a violation of the country’s sovereignty.

In conjunction with this, the Somali Cabinet will hold an emergency session in the coming hours to discuss the repercussions of the agreement concluded by the head of the Somaliland administration, Musa Bihi Abdi, with the Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed.
