Somalia and Somaliland agree to resume dialogue and security cooperation

Somalia and Somaliland agreed, after talks held between them under the auspices of Djiboutian President Ismail Omar Guelleh, to resume dialogue, focusing on crucial issues to reach a permanent solution.

Two high-ranking delegations led by the Somali President, Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, and the President of Somaliland, Musa Bihi Abdi, participated in the talks during the meetings on December 28-29, 2023.

The items that were agreed upon included setting a road map for future talks between the two sides, implementing the results of previous talks concluded between the two parties since 2012, cooperation in the security field and bringing stability to areas suffering from conflicts, and refraining from everything that would harm the atmosphere of the ongoing talks.

The two delegations expressed their gratitude to the President of Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelleh, and the government and people of Djibouti for their invitation to dialogue and for welcoming and hosting meetings between them.
