Somalia and Uganda agree to enhance cooperation in the areas of security, trade and development

The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, held discussions with his Ugandan counterpart, Yoweri Museveni, in the Ugandan capital, Kampala. The two countries reached an agreement to strengthen cooperation on security, trade and development, support Somali security forces and the new African Union mission, and commit to increasing bilateral trade and investment.

The two presidents indicated in a joint press conference after the end of their discussions that they discussed major issues of bilateral, regional and international importance, including the security situation in Somalia, the Horn of Africa, and Africa in general.

The agreement included recognition of Somalia's new membership in the East African Community and its upcoming seat in the United Nations Security Council for the period 2025-2026, as well as recognition of the lifting of the arms embargo imposed on Somalia as a decisive step for Somalia to fully assume its security responsibilities.
