Governor of Banadir region officially assumes office
Mohamed Ahmed Amir officially assumed office as Mayor and Chairman of Mogadishu Municipality yesterday evening in a ceremony held at Mogadishu Municipality headquarters, attended by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre and a number of government officials. In his speech, Amir pledged to prioritize the development of Mogadishu, with a particular focus on improving street lighting throughout the city, enhancing sanitation and hygiene, as well as repairing damaged roads to facilitate transportation.
Amir also stressed the importance of completing unfinished projects started by his predecessor, Yusuf Hussein Jamaale “Madalle”, to ensure continued progress and development in the city.
The new mayor faces significant challenges and high expectations from Mogadishu residents, who are the main source of government tax revenues. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud appointed Amir last week to succeed Yusuf Hussein Jamaale “Madalle”, who has held the position since 2022.
