Britain calls for peaceful resolution to tensions in Jubaland
The British Ambassador to Somalia, Mike Nethavrianakis, met with Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre to discuss tensions in Jubaland and the peace efforts needed to resolve the situation. Ambassador Nethavrianakis called for dialogue to end tensions in Jubaland regional state, and said the UK was committed to supporting Somalia’s development. On the other hand, a press release from the Somali Prime Minister’s Office did not mention that the Jubaland crisis was one of the issues discussed in his meeting with the UK Ambassador. The Prime Minister’s Office said the meeting focused on cooperation between the two countries in security, counter-terrorism, politics and the implementation of the general elections.
The international community has already expressed concern over the Jubaland crisis, calling for dialogue to end the status quo in the state and calling on Jubaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Madobe) to return to the National Advisory Council meetings to find a solution to the current crisis.
