Somali Police Chief, Brigadier General Asad Osman Abdullahi, and U.S. Ambassador to Somalia, Ambassador Richard Riley, reaffirmed their commitment to addressing the country’s ongoing security challenges.

The discussion focused on eliminating the extremist group Al-Shabaab, strengthening the Somali Police Force, and planning for the transition of security responsibilities from the African Transitional Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) to the Somali Police Force.

The meeting highlighted the strong partnership between Somalia and the United States, and the Commander and Ambassador emphasized the critical role of the United States in supporting Somalia’s efforts to stabilize and secure its territory. Brigadier Abdullahi noted the importance of international cooperation in combating terrorism and the need to build a strong police force capable of maintaining order and safety.

Ambassador Riley, for his part, affirmed the United States' full support for Somalia's sovereignty and its commitment to assist in the transition process as the African Transitional Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) concludes its mission. The discussion included strategic plans to enhance police capabilities and ensure effective security management in the newly transferred areas.

“The United States is an important ally of Somalia and plays a critical role in supporting efforts to help Somalia restore its status,” said the Somali police chief. The partnership aims to strengthen Somalia’s security apparatus and contribute to long-term peace and stability.
