The Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Federal Parliament of Somalia has taken disciplinary action against a number of MPs.

 The Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, Sheikh Adem Mohamed Nur “Madoobe”, has taken disciplinary action against a number of MPs accused of obstructing the work of parliament. 

According to a statement issued by Madobe’s office, 15 MPs have been banned from attending meetings of the House of Representatives for various periods and their salaries have been suspended, including MP Hassan Abdi Ismail “Frembe” who was banned from attending meetings for two months after being accused of assaulting a police officer responsible for security of the parliament.

The statement also explained that fines were imposed on other MPs accused of obstructing the completion of the quorum of the People's Assembly meetings and violating the internal regulations of the Assembly. The statement praised the members of the People's Assembly who are exerting their efforts in carrying out their national duties, and urged them to protect the system and the smooth functioning of the parliament effectively.
