Launching a free vaccination campaign to protect livestock in Garissa County
The Garissa County Government launched a free ten-day vaccination campaign targeting more than 600,000 heads of livestock in the Dadaab refugee camp and the Wafa area, as part of efforts to enhance the health of livestock and protect them from widespread diseases.
The campaign includes vaccinating camels, cattle, sheep, and goats against foot-and-mouth disease and peste des petits ruminants, and is being implemented with partial support from the Danish Refugee Council.
Livestock is the main source of income and livelihood for more than 80% of the population of Garissa County, which makes this campaign an important step in supporting pastoralist and refugee communities that depend directly on livestock.
