The United States rejects the United Nations plan to finance the new African Union operation in Somalia
The United States of America publicly rejected the United Nations plan to fund the new African Union operation in Somalia (AUSSOM).
Washington initially remained silent about the funding plan for an African peacekeeping force in Somalia, but has now stated its rejection of the plan without providing further details.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, expressed his deep concern in a report submitted to the UN Security Council on April 10 about the lack of funding, which poses a major threat to the African Union operation in Somalia, calling for support for the funding request, which he said is necessary for peace and stability in Somalia.
