Microsoft launches an artificial intelligence agent for programming on the GitHub platform
Microsoft announced on Monday the launch of an artificial intelligence agent for programming in the GitHub Copilot tool integrated into its GitHub software development tools unit.
The AI agent will be able to fix bugs, add features and improve documentation on behalf of the developer, Microsoft announced during its annual developer conference, Build, on Monday.
GitHub said in a blog on Monday that the artificial intelligence agent will start working as soon as the user assigns it a task, will save the changes it makes while it works, and will alert the user once it has finished the task assigned to it for review.
Developers can then leave feedback to the AI agent with modifications for the agent to automatically act on.
The announcement of this artificial intelligence agent shows that Microsoft is seeking to make artificial intelligence a natural part of the software improvement process, according to a CNBC report, viewed by Al Arabiya Business.
This programming agent may help Microsoft make its tools for developers distinct from alternatives provided by other companies such as Atlassian and GitLab.
“Using the latest models, the agent excels at low-to-moderate complexity tasks in well-tested codebases, from adding features and fixing bugs to extending tests, refactoring code and improving documentation,” said Thomas Domke, CEO of GitHub.
A GitHub spokesperson said that the Claude 3.7 Sonnet AI model from artificial intelligence company Anthropic is what supports the new programming agent.
