Puntland State refuses to return to National Advisory Council meetings
The state of Puntland in northeastern Somalia has confirmed that it will not return to meetings of the National Advisory Council, citing the need for broader consultations to resolve existing disputes in Somalia.
The Minister of State for the Presidency of Puntland, Abdel Fattah Abdel Nur, stated that his state withdrew from the National Advisory Council, which includes the federal leadership and state leaders, in 2022 due to a lack of understanding between it and the leaders of the federal government in their dealings with the issue of state building, so the state’s return to the council again will have no meaning.
The Minister urged the holding of a consultative conference in which various sectors of Somali society participate to discuss the agendas proposed by Puntland and the international community that address security and comprehensive policy regarding elections.
