Google displays ads in smart chatbot conversations

The Google AdSense advertising network began supporting ads within user conversations with some third-party intelligent chatbots earlier this year.

A report published by Bloomberg, citing anonymous informed sources, added that the company is launching this feature after tests it conducted with the two emerging artificial intelligence research companies, “iAsk” and “Liner.”

The report quoted a Google spokesperson as saying: “AdSense for search is available to websites that want to display relevant ads within interactive artificial intelligence experiences.”

The search and advertising giant appears to be seeking to capitalize on the growing trend of users using artificial intelligence-based chatbots, such as OpenAI's GBT Chat, Anthropic's Claude, and Perplexity, to search the web and answer common queries, and counter the potential threat to that.

Google has invested heavily in AI tools and products, with a wide range of language models and regular updates to Gemini AI applications and models.

Late last year, the company began running “AI Overview” ads, which are AI-generated summaries it provides for specific search queries.
