Defense Minister Meets Chinese Ambassador to Somalia
Mogadishu – Somali Defense Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi met with Chinese Ambassador to Somalia Wang Yu in Mogadishu on Tuesday to discuss enhanced defense cooperation and efforts to combat Al-Shabaab.
The meeting focused on strengthening military cooperation between the two governments, particularly in equipping and training the Somali Armed Forces to enhance national security.
Ambassador Wang affirmed China's commitment to supporting the Somali defense sector, pledging to help build the capacity of Somali forces to lead operations against the Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab.
Minister Fiqi expressed his gratitude for China's continued support, particularly in the areas of security, development, and bilateral cooperation. "Somalia values its strong and growing partnership with China in building a stable and secure country," Fiqi said.
The meeting reflects the deepening diplomatic relationship between Somalia and China, which continue to cooperate on key issues such as national sovereignty, security, and economic development.
