Somali and Egyptian presidents discuss strengthening relations and strategic issues between the two countries
Cairo – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, met on Monday at El Alamein Palace with his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
A statement issued by the Somali presidency stated that the two presidents discussed strengthening bilateral relations and strategic issues between the two countries, and discussed in-depth the acceleration of communication between the two peoples. They also agreed to expedite the cooperation agreement signed in August 2024.
The statement added that President El-Sisi stated that his country would soon reopen its embassy in Mogadishu, demonstrating the priority it places on cooperative relations with Somalia.
El-Sisi expressed Egypt's continued support for the people and government of Somalia, particularly in the fight against terrorism, praising the federal government's efforts to strengthen the country's unity, security, and development.
For his part, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud commended Egypt's effective role in supporting Somalia, particularly in the areas of security, diplomacy, education, health, and military cooperation.
