Somaliland Accuses Federal Government of Political Interference in Sool Region

Hargeisa – The breakaway region of Somaliland has strongly accused the Federal Government of Somalia of direct interference in the eastern parts of Sool Region, where a major conference is being held in the regional capital of Las Anod to finalize the formation of the new federal Khatama State.

In a statement issued following a high-level meeting in Hargeisa, chaired by Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Aro) and attended by leaders of major political parties, the Federal Government was accused of launching a “political attack” on Somaliland’s territorial integrity.

“The Las Anod conference poses a threat to the stability of the Horn of Africa and could become a basis for renewed conflict,” the statement read. Somaliland reiterated its firm position that Sool is an integral part of its territory and declared that it will not tolerate federal government interference in what it calls its “internal affairs.”

This statement comes at a tense time, as the Las Anod conference, aimed at completing the establishment of the Khatama administration, continues with the support of the Federal Government in Mogadishu.

This development highlights the escalating tensions between Somaliland and the federal government over disputed territories, particularly as the political landscape becomes increasingly turbulent.
